Replacing your flooring or installing a new floor can be a sizeable task and consideration should certainly be given to what the right type of flooring you need is.
There are a number of different types of flooring such as carpet, laminate, solid wood, tile plus more, and depending on the result you want, you will want to make sure you make the right decision.
With over 50 years of experience, the Ajax Flooring team are experts at not only installing your flooring but providing guidance on the right type of flooring for you. Here are a couple of things to consider when choosing flooring for your home:
Where will the flooring be installed?
This is an important question as it will help guide not only how hardwearing your flooring is, but things such as how resistant to stains and dirt it needs to be along with the style of flooring itself.
For example, you will certainly not want to install carpet in your bathroom or kitchen as it would quickly get damaged and you will find yourself needing to replace it.
If you are installing flooring in a hallway, you will want to give consideration to the amount of traffic going through and if installing in a bedroom, you may want to consider how warm the flooring will be underfoot!
An understanding of where the flooring will be installed will help us guide you to make sure you have the right product that will not only look great but also last a long time.
What style of property do I have?
Whilst this may be an obvious question to consider, the style of your property (and décor) are important factors to consider when choosing a replacement flooring solution.
As an example, if you have an old Victorian property with some lovely oak floorboards, you may want to get them sanded and stained, however, if your property has a solid floor you won’t be able to do that!
Your choice of flooring should suite the style of property that you have and if you are going for an old, rustic look then a traditional solid wood floor could be your solution, however, if you are aiming for a modern feel then something like a grey carpet or light oak solid floor with a gloss finish could be just right.
We recommend always taking the time to do your research and making sure the style you choose is perfect because it will be with you for many years to come.
What about hygiene & pets?
Hygiene should be an important consideration to the type of flooring you choose. For example, you will not want to be spending your time hoovering mud off a light-coloured carpet where your front or back door opens right onto it.
You will also want to consider any pets such as cats or dogs as whilst we all love a pet, their hairs can easily find their way deep into a carpet and be difficult to clean. If you have a pet, you may find that a wooden floor would be preferable for living areas.
